The long term preservation of the collections requires the implementation of a preventive conservation strategy. In 2009 and 2010 preventive conservation workshops were offered to the museum personnel with the aim to devise a strategy adapted to the physical and socio-cultural environment of the collection. A workshop focused on the Museum collection in storage, the other on the Museum collection on display.
They aim to develop conservation expertise at the KTM and foster partnership between local and international professionals in the conservation of the tangible and intangible heritage of the Kurdish nomadic tribes.
They also aim to foster visibility and open-up the collection to everybody (Accessioning of KTM collection online for education and research). Between 2009 and 2010, the Museum was engaged in the development of new storage premises as well as the documentation of the Museum collection on Past Perfect Museum software.
